Description

Threaded Coupling is a pipe fitting designed to connect two pieces of pipe or other fittings with external threads. They are typically cylindrical in shape and internally threaded to screw into other threaded pipes or fittings.

Applications

  • Water supply systems: Used in plumbing, wastewater and water related applications.
  • Oil and gas industry: Used in oil and gas pipeline systems.
  • Chemical Industry: Used to connect pipes during the production and transportation of chemicals.
  • HVAC Systems: Used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Standards

ASME B16.11 is the American Society of Mechanical Engineers standard for threaded pipe fittings used in high pressure systems.

  • Material: Usually made from carbon steel, stainless steel, copper or plastic, depending on application requirements and usage environment.
  • Nominal Pipe Size (NPS): The standard covers nominal sizes from 1/8″ to 4″.
  • Wall Thickness: Clearly specified to ensure pressure resistance and mechanical strength of fittings.
  • Tolerances: Specify dimensional tolerances for each type of accessory to ensure consistency and accurate assembly.
  • Pressure and temperature: The standard specifies the pressure and temperature levels that the fitting can withstand. These levels vary depending on the size and material of the fitting.
